Quote:Paul Heinz Naumann, 57, of Questa, NM passed away October 20th, 2009.
Born in Frankfurt, Germany, his family eventually found their way to Toronto, Canada where the young Naumann found he had a unique talent for playing lead guitar. Shortly, he became a member of “A Foot in Cold Water”, a soon to be famous band in Canada. He co-wrote two unforgettable hits (“Make Me Do Anything You Want” and “Oh What a Feeling”) in the seventies. During his musical career, he had the opportunity to play with musical legends such as Linda Ronstadt, Steppenwolf, and John Lennon, to name a few.
Paul's guitar playing was described as “fluid and tasteful” and he was praised for his ability to “float over the strings” (Sutherland) while creating musical masterpieces. His eyes shut, he became one with his guitar, as if the notes themselves expressed everything he knew and felt. He was a master of his instrument and continues to influence future leagues of guitarists and musicians.
He continued to produce, write, and play music throughout the remainder of his life. In 2001, he found himself drawn to the beauty and mysticism of Questa, NM, where he fell in love with, and later married Kathy Donahey Naumann. Paul was a dedicated, loving father. He was humble in his achievements, but quick to share his love of music with all those who would lend an ear. He had an enormous heart and a friendly demeanor that will not soon be forgotten.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents. He is survived by parents, Dieter and Hannahlore Holtzscherer, loving wife and musical partner Kathy Naumann, bother Gary (Angela) Naumann, children Paul (Lisa) Naumann and Hannah (Matthew) Wilson, Stepdaughter Erin Moore, and three grandchildren, Connor, Owen, and Angelo.
In addition he leaves behind an enormous, broadbase of music fans in Canada and around the world. Tributes have been played all over Canada since his death and his songs will continue to forever play in our hearts. There will be a memorial in Questa, NM for family and friends at a later date.
